If you’re in the Southern California area and you’re looking for fun things to do with the family this Spring Break or Summer, you’ve got to add a trip to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament in Buena Park, California. Our family was recently offered the opportunity to check it out and it did not disappoint.
I had visited Medieval Times once before with my parents back when I was around the same age that my two older children were when we went for this trip (ages 10 and 12). I remember having so much fun back then and was just as impressed visiting as an adult. We arrived at the castle prior to our show and our group was placed on the Red Knight’s team. They encourage a healthy competition between sections in the stadium, everyone cheering on their knight throughout the evening. We entered the castle and lined up for photos with the Royals. I urge you to upgrade your visit to one of the VIP packages they offer. It includes priority seating, photos and is great if you're celebrating something as they'll announce it during the event. You make your way through the castle through the courtyard into the upper part of the arena. Here you can visit the horses, shop for souvenirs and there is a full bar with lots of fun and delicious cocktails for the adults in the group to indulge in. I purchased red cheering flags for all of the kids in our group. My husband purchased a light up axe, sword and princess wand for the kids as well. The prices on the souvenirs were really affordable and there was a wide selection. I also felt that the quality and value of the items were great. The kids are still playing with these items at home and they’re holding up well as far as toys go. After getting outfitted with souvies, we moved on to the arena to take our seats and prepare for the show. We were seated with a view on our left of the King and Queen. The arena was spectular. All of the kids were amazed by the view and the set up of the area.

We really felt like we were in true medieval times. We were greeted by our matron of service, who brought drinks to fill our pewter style mugs. One of the most fun things (for kids and adults alike) about this dinner show is that you eat and are served just like you were in that period – no forks, no knives, no spoons! You sip your soup out of a bowl with a handle and eat your meal with your hands! The kids are so excited to be allowed to get messy and dig in. The food was delicious. The menu included a starter of Tomato Soup, followed by the main course of bread, potato, corn on the cob and Baby Dragon (aka roasted chicken). The meal was topped off with a lemony cake for dessert. It was more than enough food per person, none of us could finish our meals and it was all delicious. They have to-go boxes for Lords and Ladies that want to take home their leftovers.
Throughout the service of the meal, the show is taking place. You can hear the roar of the crowd as each knight and horse is introduced. One of the highlights of the show are the gorgeous horses. There was a special dance done by one of the horses with his knight. Such a stunning animal.

Though the Red Knight didn't win this time around, it was definitely a KNIGHT to remember for all of us. Good food, fun and family. Put this event on your bucket list, you won't regret it.
